The Parent Race: The Best Goal - Day 1

Opening Prayer

Lord, as we seek you and your ways, we trust you for wisdom and understanding in our daily life.

Read: Proverbs 3:13 (NIV)

”Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.”

Reflect:

A long, long time ago in a high school not too far away, I was a junior going through a tough time. As a teenager I felt I was at the end of my rope and it was evident in class that I was out of sorts. Unexpectedly out of the blue, a classmate, I'll call him Jack (as I don't remember his name) gave me the best tip ever and it has stuck with me for many decades. Jack’s tip was to seek Godly wisdom and read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since the book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, it covers every day of the month. I'm so grateful that, as a teen, God sent me his message through this very unexpected messenger.

Apply:

Proverbs 3, in the first part of verse 13 there is the verb find. To find wisdom shows action on our part. As we seek wisdom, God will see that we will find it. Wisdom is often revealed in the midst of trials as described in James 1:2-5, 2 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” During these hard times, maybe our hearts are more receptive or perhaps our focus is more open to him. Whatever the case, he gives us what we need when we need it. A second verb in verse 13 is gain; to obtain or secure. To gain understanding describes more of a receiving part. When God reveals his wisdom, be diligent to preserve and treasure it.

I must confess I have truly been blessed by the years of seeking Godly wisdom. And gaining understanding has given me a treasure I long to grow in and share. It has been the joy of my life.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, we ask for your wisdom. Cause your Godly wisdom to be our heart’s desire.
